The American Legion was chartered as a patriotic, mutual-help, and community service organization. Since the 50’s it has become the largest service organization in the world. The Legion family totals over 5 million members consisting of nearly 3 million Legionnaires and 2 million members in the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion (supports Legionnaires). The organization has stood by its longstanding objectives by continuing to be a watchdog and an advocate of veterans' programs and benefits. The institution contributes continually to the Nation's quality of life through a variety of youth programs and endeavors to make American communities better places to live.

     Today with 700 members we also continue to serve our community. We support the Legion Ball Team, Boy Scouts of America, Ephrata Soccer, the Coatesville Veterans Hospital, Meals on Wheels, award scholarships, and aid the local Veterans home on Church Street, to name a few. The Ephrata Post is no longer rich in land and resources. Over the decades most of the land was donated to the community or sold because of financial difficulties. The Big Band sounds coming from the park, the Eicher Hotel which housed famous guests.   The roller rink is no longer visible but the Ephrata American Legion Post 429 is.  As a member of Post 429, we continue to serve our God, our Country, and our community.
